Herringbone is the work we get asked for most, and it is the work that separates a floor layer from someone who lays floors. The pattern magnifies everything. A setting-out line a couple of degrees off at one end of a room is an obvious wander by the other, and there is no hiding it once the floor is down.
So we set out from the centre and work outwards, so the pattern sits square to the room and the cuts fall evenly at both walls rather than leaving a thin sliver down one side. Borders and double borders, where you want them, frame the field and tidy the perimeter.
